A woman asked me a question about the workshop: can she use scented candles for the emotional balancing I’ve been talking about?
The answer is no. Scented candles are a whole different thing. They are a perfume, and very often they are made with synthetic fragrances that do not have the same chemical or emotional impact on our nervous system and brain as essential oils do.
There is a reason essential oils are very rarely used in candles. They can be, but you need tremendous amounts of oil, because they deteriorate when they are heated. The scent changes too.
And there is another very important reason, which I showed you in the video. In an orange, the essential oils sit in the peel in little globules. When we break the peel, the oil comes out. That’s why a lemon smells so strongly when we peel it, and why we often have that white residue on our hands after peeling an orange. That’s the essential oil.
When I pressed the peel close to the candle flame, you could see the little sparks. That’s because essential oils are highly flammable. So imagine, if barely even a drop of essential oil reacts like that with fire, you don’t really want them in candles. It doesn’t make sense.
In candles, room perfumes and all these different products, they are usually called fragrance oils, not essential oils. They are usually synthetic and made in a laboratory, so they will not affect you the way an essential oil does. They might smell really beautiful, and they’re wonderful for scenting your home. But they will not work on an emotional level the way essential oils will.
I hope this answered the question. If you have more questions, just send them in. I will be answering each and every one, especially questions like this one, because I figured a lot of people probably have the same question.
Next week, on 4 November, I am holding a free workshop about essential oils and the emotions that come after menopause. It will be an hour to an hour and a half, depending on how many questions there are. You are all really, really welcome.
If you have a friend who would like to join or would enjoy this, give her the link and tell her to sign up. It’s free and everybody is welcome. We’ll be looking at orange, geranium and ylang ylang, and it’s going to be absolutely fabulous.
