Working with people
I have run my own practice since 1990, in Sweden, Luxembourg and France. Most of my clients have been women, coming to me with stress, burnout, emotional strain, skin problems or a loss of confidence. From 1994 to 2016 I also ran wellbeing and anti-bullying programmes for children in schools, including invited work at the European School of Luxembourg.
Working with medicine
I studied medical sciences with Gösta Ullmark, MD, PhD, at Gävle Hospital and Uppsala University. I have worked with physicians on individual cases, including wound care. My case study on aromatherapy care in a severe burn case is published in the second edition of Aromatherapy for Health Professionals, under the name Anna Hanson. I have also worked with midwives in pregnancy and childbirth, and with veterinarians.
Teaching
As Head Teacher at Aroma Institutet AB, I taught essential oils, massage and formulation, and helped shape the curriculum. I wrote and taught further courses for practising therapists on skincare, pregnancy, babies and children, and energy work. I have lectured at Uppsala University and Örebro University, given workshops in Sweden, Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg, and spoken to audiences of up to 200 people.
Building the profession
As Chairwoman of the Swedish Aromatherapy Association from 1995 to 2000, I worked on standards for how essential oils are bottled and labelled, and on official recognition of aromatherapy training, so students could get study funding. I also helped open doors for aromatherapy in healthcare.
Formulation
For around 40 years I have created water-free botanical skincare. I co-founded Essential Factory in Luxembourg, with three water-free creams made without added preservatives. I have created formulations for Wise Organic Skincare in Sweden and for clients in Germany and Hong Kong. From 2014 to 2018 I developed essential oil blends for driver alertness for the automotive industry. The project reached testing and represented Luxembourg at an international startup competition in Copenhagen. Today I am developing a skincare range with my daughter.
